Blog

A broken or dying air conditioner's thermostat is the worst nightmare for homeowners. It makes the indoors unpleasant and causes numerous inconveniences. If not addressed in time, you will experience a pretty challenging time during the summer and winter.

Typically, a broken thermostat does not accurately determine or control your home's indoor temperatures. Luckily, you can tell that your air conditioner's thermostat is failing with the following cues.

Unstable Temperatures

Temperature fluctuation is a top indicator that you need to repair your AC's thermostat. In this case, you will notice that the temperatures in one part of the home do not match other rooms. It is particularly an abnormal occurrence in areas that you have not zoned.

So if you notice fluctuating temperatures in some areas, then it's time to have your thermostat examined. Your HVAC contractor will assess your thermostat and determine whether it needs AC repairs or a replacement.

Unresponsive Thermostat

You will know that your thermostat has become non-responsive when you try to control the AC temperatures and notice no change. An unresponsive thermostat can result from something as simple as weakening batteries.

But if you change the batteries and the thermostat still doesn't function, it is time to think about repairs. So call an HVAC repair technician to help you troubleshoot the problem and repair it accordingly.

Air Conditioner Does Not Turn Off

A functional and efficient air conditioner should run for a specific time. Once it achieves the desired temperature, it should go off. The process of going on and off is known as cycling, and it should be regular in an efficient unit.

So if your system is cycling faster than it should, you should consider the possibility of a failing thermostat. Also, if the air conditioner runs throughout the day and night and will not turn off, it is time to call the HVAC technician.

Display Does Not Work

When the AC's thermostat develops display issues, something is crucially wrong. The problem often affects the thermostats with a digital display. When you notice that the information on the display is becoming faded or missing correct data, think about repairs right away. Hire a competent air conditioning contractor to diagnose and resolve the issue.

The above signs indicate that all is not well with your thermostat and call for professional AC repair. The expert will restore the functionality of the thermostat so as to ensure the unit's efficiency and longevity.
