Doing Your Part to Keep Your HVAC System Running

A few months ago, my air conditioner completely died. I woke up in the middle of the night covered in sweat, and I didn't know what to do. The next day, I called an HVAC expert, and they came out to inspect my system. It turned out that it had failed because of filthy filters and a clogged return duct, which made me sick to my stomach. I had caused the problem, and I needed to learn how to fix things. My HVAC professional taught me a few easy maintenance techniques that I didn't know before, so that I could maintain my new system. 3 Tips to Save Money on Cooling Costs This Summer

Blog

Summer is almost here, which means that it's almost time for you to crank up your central air containing system. Even though your central AC system can save you from getting heat stroke inside of your own house, it may also cause you a stroke because of how high your energy bills are. So, how can you cool your house down while saving money at the same time? This article will take a closer look.

1. Set Your Thermostat

You should be able to program your thermostat to different temperatures based on your daily schedule. For instance, if you are at work from 8 to 5 every day, then you can program your thermostat to turn the heat up around this time. You can also program your thermostat to turn the temperature up a little bit while you're sleeping so that you don't waste too much energy. This small step can save you a lot of money every month.

2. Close Your Windows

Yes, having a little bit of a warm summer's breeze seep in through your windows may be nice, but it's also a great way for you to waste energy. When your air conditioning system is working hard to regulate the temperature in your house and you're letting warm air in from outside, it's going to make your system work overtime, which may cost you a lot of money. Make it a rule that as long as your AC is on, the windows have to stay shut.

3. Have It Tuned Up

If your air conditioning needs a tune-up, then it's not going to be as efficient as it would be otherwise. Make sure that you hire an AC repair person to come out and give your unit a tune-up at the start of the season; that way you know that it's running as smoothly and as efficiently as possible. During a tune-up they will look at the coolant, the hoses, and the motor and make sure that it's working smoothly.

Are you ready to take the next steps to learn a little bit more about ways that you can conserve energy? If so, then contact an air conditioning company near you today and they can come out and take a closer look at your system. Then, if they see that anything is wrong with it, they can usually repair it on the spot so that you don't have to worry about it later on down the line.
